Recessed & Accent Lighting

Good lighting is mostly layout. Spacing, beam angle, colour temperature and dimmer compatibility decide whether a room feels designed or feels like a parking garage — and none of that is fixable after the holes are cut.

We plan the layout before anything gets cut: how many cans, where they sit relative to walls and furniture, and what colour temperature suits the room. 2700K reads warm and residential; 3000K is crisper and tends to suit kitchens and baths. Mixing them across an open floor plan is the single most common mistake we get called in to correct.

Retrofits in finished ceilings are most of what we do, and they don't require tearing the room apart. We cut clean, fish the runs, and patch is usually limited to the fixture openings themselves.

Every job is permitted and inspected where the village requires it, and we leave the work clean. If you'd rather talk it through first, call (708) 407-3559 — quotes are free.

Why LED dimming goes wrong

Common questions

How many recessed lights does a room need?

A common starting point is spacing cans at roughly half the ceiling height apart, then adjusting for the furniture layout and any accent lighting. We lay it out on site before cutting anything.

Can you add recessed lighting to a finished ceiling?

Yes — that's the majority of what we do. Wafer-style fixtures fit shallow cavities and we fish the wiring, so patching is usually limited to the openings themselves.

What colour temperature should I choose?

2700K for living spaces and bedrooms, 3000K for kitchens and bathrooms. Many fixtures are field-selectable now, so you can decide once they're in and see them lit.

Why do my LEDs flicker?

Almost always a dimmer that isn't rated for the LED load, or mixed fixture types sharing one dimmer. It's usually a straightforward fix.
