EV Charger Installation

A Level 2 charger turns an overnight top-up from roughly 40 miles into a full battery. The install itself is straightforward — what matters is whether your panel can carry the load, and how the circuit gets run.

We install hardwired and plug-in Level 2 chargers on dedicated 240-volt circuits, sized to the charger and to what your service can actually support. Most home units land between 32 and 48 amps, which means a 40- to 60-amp breaker and a panel with the headroom to spare.

If the panel doesn't have that headroom, there are usually options short of a full service upgrade — a load management device, or dialling the charger's output down to what the service will carry. We'll lay out the choice honestly rather than defaulting to the most expensive path.

Every job is permitted and inspected where the village requires it, and we leave the work clean. If you'd rather talk it through first, call (708) 407-3559 — quotes are free.

Common questions

Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?

Sometimes, but less often than people expect. A load calculation tells us whether your existing service carries the charger. If it's marginal, load management hardware is usually cheaper than a full service upgrade.

Should I hardwire or use a 14-50 outlet?

Hardwiring supports higher amperage and is the more robust install. A 14-50 receptacle lets you unplug and take the unit if you move. Both are code-compliant — it comes down to which matters more to you.

Do I need a permit?

Yes. A new 240V circuit is permitted work in every village we serve. We file it and schedule the inspection.

How long does the install take?

Most are a half to full day, depending on how far the charger sits from the panel and whether the run crosses finished space.
